Taking summer classes or studying for standardized exams? We know some of you troopers are doing both. Using summer breaks to get ahead on studies is typical for most STEM students. As consistent workloads from the semester carry on into summer, it might seem impossible to get a break. You may not have multiple hours a day to do what you please, but you can take 10 - 30 minutes between subjects to take a step back and relax!
During my study breaks, I try to stay away from my phone, Netflix, or any activities that can cause me to lose track of time. Here are a few ways I have been using my mid-day study breaks.
Meditate
Stretch and yoga
Sit outside for a snack
Workout
Go on a neighborhood run
Take a drive
Grab a coffee
Cook a meal or bake a dessert
Listen to music or podcasts
Facetime friends
Practice another language
Sudoku or crossword
Read a chapter from your current book of interest
So, next time you have a few minutes, try out one of these tips and remember- life is about balance! Taking a break from studying is just as important as studying itself!
